Meet Our Eye Doctors
Lawrence A. Gans, M.D., FACS
Dr. Lawrence Gans is a Refractive, Cataract and Corneal Surgery Specialist. His surgical expertise includes LASIK, ICL, and other forms of refractive surgery, cataract & lens implant surgery, DSAEK, corneal transplantation, tumors and trauma to the anterior segment of the eye. He was among the first surgeons to perform Excimer Laser refractive surgery in the St. Louis area and has since performed over 17,000 LASIK procedures.
Dr. Gans received his medical degree from Case-Western Reserve University, followed by a medical internship and ophthalmology residency at Washington University. He completed prestigious fellowship in Corneal & External Ocular Diseases at the Jules Stein Institute of UCLA.
In 1981, Dr. Gans was appointed to the teaching faculty at Washington University. He performed the first refractive surgery at Barnes Hospital and, in 1990, was appointed as the Principal Investigator for the Excimer Laser Study at Washington University.
He is Board Certified as a Diplomat and Associate Examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and was awarded the Achievement Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of numerous local, state, national and international medical societies. As an instructor of eye surgery, he has lectured and demonstrated operations in over twelve countries on five continents.
Dr. Gans innovations in corneal and refractive surgery have been recognized by his peers, as he was named for the past two decades St. Louis Magazine’s list of the Top Doctors in our area and by Who’s Who as one of the top doctors in the country.
With over 33 years experience in refractive and corneal surgery, Dr. Gans has been a pioneer in procedures to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. He is the President and Medical Director of SureVision Eye Centers, the Medical Director of the Woodcrest Surgery Center, and the Medical Director and Refractive Surgeon at LasikPlus in Saint Louis.
Naina Gupta, M.D.
SureVision Eye Centers is excited to welcome Naina Gupta, MD to our medical staff. Dr. Gupta was named a Benjamin Franklin Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by receiving her medical doctorate at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She completed her Ophthalmology training at the prestigious Havener Eye Institute of The Ohio State University, and now comes to make her home in St. Louis with her husband who is a Radiologist.
Jason M. Newman, M.D.
Jason Newman, M.D. joined SureVision Eye Centers in 2015. Dr. Newman is originally from the central Missouri town of Belle, where his family still resides. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Missouri and was elected to the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society. He received his medical doctorate from the University of Missouri School of Medicine and completed his Ophthalmology residency training at the Saint Louis University Eye Institute. He has participated in medical outreach programs for underserved patients in the United States, Mexico, and India. He lives in St. Louis with his wife, Emily, who works in public health as a Family Medicine doctor for uninsured and underinsured patients.
Dr. Newman practices full spectrum eye care and would love to serve you by providing you and your family evidence-based medical and surgical care for your eyes. His surgical interests include cataract surgery, astigmatic correction, and non-invasive glaucoma laser procedures. He uses the latest technology in intraocular lenses, and looks forward to discussing a lens that meets your needs and budget following cataract surgery.
Daniel Walsh, O.D.
Dr. Daniel Walsh has been working in eye care since 1979. He specializes in the management of ocular diseases and the co-management of refractive and cataract surgery. Dr. Walsh holds bachelor degrees in Music Education from Southeast Missouri State University and in Science, Data Processing from University College of Washington University. He then went on to graduate school and received his degree as Doctor of Optometry from University of Missouri-St. Louis, School of Optometry. Dr. Walsh holds TPA certification and is licensed to prescribe medications.
Following graduation, Dr. Walsh furthered his studies in several specialized externships, including ocular disease, contact lenses, primary care, co-management of LASIK and cataract surgery, and pediatric optometry.
Dr. Walsh was awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Ophthalmic Lasers Award, and was the site coordinator for the national VISX FDA PRK study. Dr. Walsh has also had ophthalmic photos published in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Ashley M. Deese, O.D.
Ashley M. Deese, OD joined SureVision Eye Centers in July 2017 where she plans on treating general eye care as well as offering dry eye specialty services at our Dry Eye Institute in Creve Coeur.
She graduated from the University of Missouri – Columbia with honors in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She then went on to receive a degree as Doctor of Optometry from University of Missouri – St. Louis School of Optometry and was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa honors society.
Dr. Deese furthered her studies in several specialized externships, including ocular disease, contact lenses, and primary care. She also completed research in the areas of glaucoma, dry eye management, and genetic disease.
During her time in optometry school, she was able to attend a medical mission trip to Saint Louis Du Nord, Haiti, where she had the privilege of providing eye care to an underserved population.
Her optometric interests include dry eye management, specialty contact lens fitting, ocular disease, and medical missions.
As a St. Louis native, she is excited to be able to provide eye care to patients in her home town. She is recently engaged and will be Dr. Reece come May 2018!
